My Bonfire Cupcakes!
My bonfire cupcakes are super easy to make but super tasty! They look super effective and would be perfect for a fireworks and bonfire night get together, which is exactly why I have made them!
I will be making chocolate sponge cake which will be perfect for decorating! If your not a huge fan of chocolate that's fine just skip that step!
This mixture should make 12 cupcakes.
For the sponge:
- self raising flour- 80g
- sugar- 100g
- Margarine- 100g
- 2 Eggs
- Chocolate powder- 20g
- Cupcake cases
For the Butter Cream you will need:
- unsalted butter- 100g
- Icing Sugar- 200g
- Orange food colouring (until you get the correct colour you're looking for)
- Vanilla Essence- 2/3 drops.
- Match Makers. I used salted caramel ones but any flavour will do!

Method to make sponge:
Now, before beginning to make the mixture make sure you preheat your oven to 190°C.
This is the easy part grab your scales. Measure everything out, crack those eggs in to your mixing bowl and get mixing. Voila you have your cake mixture, it's that easy guys.
Grab your cupcake cases and spread them out on your tray or place them in the places on your cupcake/muffin tray.
I prefer to use an ice cream scoop to get my mixture in the cases- you get an even spread and size of all cupcakes.
Now all that is left is too place our cupcakes in our preheated oven and watch them bake. The cupcakes should take around 10-15 minutes to cook. Always check the cupcakes are cooked through before removing from the oven.
Method to make Butter Cream:
Add the butter and icing sugar to bowl. Mix until you have a smooth texture. If the butter cream is extremely thick use a few drops of water so it will mix a little easier.
Now we have our smooth butter cream add your vanilla essence and food colouring. Mix all together. If you have your perfect colour first time round. amazing! If not carry on adding bit by bit making sure you mix thoroughly each time.
Method to Decorate:
I opted for a fork to add my buttercream to each cupcake as once i had placed it on the cupcake i would use the fork to spike the butter cream a little as I didn't want the butter cream looking extremely smooth on top of the cake.
I snapped my match makers into 4 adding them to the top of the cupcake making sure the four pieces meet in the middle to create the look of a bonfire.
To finish I sprinkled some little fudge pieces on top of each cupcake!
Make sure you keep all cupcakes in a cool/dry room. Eat within 2-3 days.
